This article discusses the capacity for tool use in the New Caledonian Crow. Scientists found that these crows were able to distinguish between tools that would be helpful or detrimental in their ability to obtain food that was placed just out of the reach of the crows. In some instances, the crows would even discard the detrimental tools before using the beneficial ones, hinting at the idea that they possessed the ability to reason. Other crows experimented with both tool sets, but quickly learned to distinguish between the beneficial and detrimental tools.
This is a scholarly article written by a scientist in the field of study and published in a scientific journal. It details the experimental process that they went through to obtain the data, so it is a very credible source.
This is relevant to my research paper because it discusses a specific example of tool use in animals. I will definitely be quoting specific sections of this article, as well as looking into a few of the sources it cited regarding tool use among chimpanzee's.

ReplyDeleteHigher education has undergone monumental changes over the past century on two important fronts. First point being that the worldview of choice in schools has significantly changed. And secondly, with the emergence of the modern research institution, disciplinary specialization has began to characterize the university and subject areas are segregated from one another.

This source is credible because it includes bibliographical references that show the origins of the research.
This is relevant in the context of my research paper because it shows how societies values have changed in reference to education and religion. I will use this source to highlight the social changes in perspective to education and religion, as well as how these relate to one another.
